Pembroke — In early March four Pembroke High School seniors competed in the Moody’s Mega Math Challenge for the chance at receiving scholarship money. Seniors Erin Haley, Charlie Meyer, Soumya Karra, and Ally Marx had 14 hours one Saturday to address the issue of plastic waste filling our nation’s landfills, come up with the best recycling methods for U.S. cities to implement based on their demographics, and recommend guidelines for nationwide recycling standards.

They competed against nearly 6,000 other U.S. high school students. They had to work independently and were not allowed to consult with their team captain and Calculus teacher, Mr. Paul Consolati.
